City of Bloomington – Normandale Lake District

Normandale Lake District Brand Implementation, Wayfinding and Sign System Design

As the third largest city in Minnesota, Bloomington offers more than 8,000 acres of parks and recreation areas. One of the largest is the Normandale Lake District which includes a ski area, beach, bandshell and numerous parks. With access to this mixed use district available from two major interstates and a state highway, the city needed help directing visitors to their destinations.

Signia’s team developed a wayfinding and signage program that addressed both automobile and pedestrian traffic while incorporating design elements that reflected the progressive nature of the city and the existing graphic standards. In addition to developing signage and wayfinding, Signia was asked to develop the final site signage standards that would provide a framework for the city to work within to create a multi-district wayfinding and signage system.
